This skillfully executed wooden dish is decorated on its outer side with lightly incised lines, enhanced with pokerwork to emphasize the decoration. The interior has been carefully smoothed so that the adze marks are barely visible. The light color of the wood and the style of decoration are typical of Tutsi wood carving, which becomes ever harder to find on the market.
It should be mentioned that many craft items attributed to the Tutsi were in fact made by both Hutu and Twa pygmies for their Tutsi employers or customers.
