It is what it is, not a complete piece, with a number of holes and missing at least four bands at the top. It has been mounted on a linen backing.

This magnificent kilim (well, most of it) is notable for its glorious and rare apricot coloured open field with the two off-kilter large hooked hexagons motifs and other minor decoration. Like all good, old kilims the colours have a purity of tone and the interplay between colour and design is endlessly absorbing.

We have been unable to find any directly comparable pieces, an indication of its rarity and age. There is however a fragment of a kilim (Plate 50, pp 178.) in the Caroline & McCoy Jones Collection in the Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco which is certainly a close relative but with a red field and two borders which similar motifs to some of those in this kilim.
