This woven narrow sash, garter or of other usage is a minor but exquisite example of silk and metal-thread, slit-tapestry weaving. It is a difficult thing to ascribe but we have plumbed for Syria (possibly Aleppo) as we can think of nowhere else in the 19th century, which this surely is, that could produce silk and metal-thread, slit-tapestry of this quality. There is some evidence to suggest that it may have made for the Algerian market.
