This kimono has a simple yet strong design. The juji cross design is a classic motif used in kasuri, Japanese ikat. Traditionally it would have been used on cotton dyed with indigo and the scale would be much smaller. Here the large crosses are filled with colourful squares and flowers. Purple was a popular textile ground colour in the Taisho period.
