ships, hansen and clouds, kumo

As with the preceding example the ships and clouds floating across the surface of the kimono would have been used as part of seascape in the 19th century and earlier. Here again the motif has been blown up in scale and dyed in strong contrasting colours. The colours of the boats alternate from boat to boat with the main colour and the subsidiary colour exchanging places from boat to boat creating a sense of rhythm and movement. There is no attempt at shading only flat blocks of colour.
