A perfect example of traditional Japanese deign transformed by scale and colour. The tatewaku, undulating lines are used as a design motif in many media, not just textiles. The circles enclose a mon, the family crests of Japan, traditionally used to signify family or group affiliation. One, three or five mons depending on the formality of the garment, were traditionally located across the upper back and front of the garment.
