Pursuit of Empire

Pursuit of Empire

Japan aspired to become the great colonial power of East Asia. Its thirst for expansion was fueled by a desire to take its “rightful place” among other great global powers. Its pursuit of creating a great Asian empire under its leadership is described by Dr Barak Kushner, in his essay for the catalogue of this exhibition, as “...a society that became monomaniacal in pursuit of one goal – to dominate Asia to the exclusivity of logic and reason”.
