,These small decorative bags or ilgitch, were made as dowry pieces by the Lakai or possibly the kungrat people of Uzbekistan. They were embroidered before marriage and then hung on the wall of a marriage yurt or other dwelling. This piece is complete with its original Russian chintz backing and ikat edging. One of the reds is on wool, which is a is a corrosive dye, typical of the region. This prestige bag is rare, both for its unusual blue wool ground (they are usually red) and for being part of a small group bags embroidered in the manner of a Lakai suzani.
