Mystery Object, possibly a Staff

We have been unable to establish the use and purpose of this wonderfully patinated wooden object. The hole in the ridged knob at the end suggest that it was not a staff but it is not heavy enough to be an effective weapon. And perhaps it has some utilitarian use; it reminds me somewhat of Philippe Strark's iconic juicer. We would welcome evidence or suggestions as to what it is.
