Tutsi Agaseke Prestige Basket

This finely woven basket has a black zigzag band of decoration spiraling up the height of the basket. The design is created by inserting horizontal colored strips of fibre, of the necessary width to create the design, over the fiber that creates the actual structure of the piece. The strips are held in place by the vertical wrapping (see detail) that has been carefully dyed only where they overlap the design. The very tip of the lid is green.
